1. In which the gauntlet is tossed down upon the floor

Well, after many late night dinners and bottles of red and white and sparkling and beer over many years the Catos finally threw the gauntlet down to the Rabes.

"This is the year of India," Jen said. It was early 2012.

There was a rather pregnant pause in the conversation. Nate gulped. How can this be the year of Catos' India trip if I'm not leading the expedition?

Damning the torpedoes, the gauntlet was picked up and the stakes raised. "I'll be there," Nate replied, all the while wondering how the hell the Dollar Fairies were going to sprinkle their dust on what he had just said.  And to prove his point (and in a demonstration of his fecklessness) he went out and bought 4 round trip tickets to India.

November 21-December 12. The dates were announced to the Catos who had to scramble to re-arrange their slowly developing plans and make flights align like the planets on Saturn's Return.

More dinners were enjoyed,  large atlases consulted and rough itineraries sketched out.  Visas and passports were looked into and mysterious forms filled out that would allow entry into that oldest of continuously alive civilisations, India!  भारत (Bharat) as the Indian's themselves refer to their grand country.

And so by early winter the following had marked their calendars (and in Mose's case informed the entire neighbourhood) for a three week jaunt into the land of Mad Dogs and Englishmen.

  4. Hi Jen,
It is coming! Already have people ready to go for the next tour next year...!
As far as my Javedbabu-based information goes we leave Delhi on 25th morning. Then leave for Agra from Jaipur on 29th morning. There were no hotels in Agra for one night so we will arrive in the morning, visit the Taj etc and then head to the station that evening and take the train to Varanasi. But I'm going to ask JB for another version as I'm not at all confident this is right. but we'll be in Jaipru on your birthday I reckon.
